How to Get Closer to Allah in 5 Minutes a Day

If you have been asking how to get closer to Allah, start smaller than you think. I use a simple 5 minute routine that fits into real life and actually sticks. There were seasons where I felt distant from Allah and overwhelmed by life. I wanted a simple way to reconnect without needing an hour and a perfect plan. What finally worked was a tiny, consistent routine I could do in 5 minutes. It is gentle, practical, and it actually sticks.

This post is me sharing that routine with you. If you want it guided step by step, this is exactly why I created the 5 Minute Islamic Gratitude Journal. It lays everything out so you can open the page and start.

Why 5 minutes works:

Consistency softens the heart. Five minutes done daily is better than once in a while. Gratitude and remembrance change how you see your day. Done consistently, they change your life. I want you to keep these verses and hadith in mind before reading any further..

“The most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular, even if small.”  Sahih al-Bukhari 6464

"Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” Quran 13:28.

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.” Quran 14:7.

My 5 minute routine (morning)

Minute 1: Quran verse or hadith
Each page has a short reminder. I read it slowly and sit with it. Most days it is exactly what I need to start my day. Subhanallah.

Minute 2: Dhikr
Recite and write simple phrases with presence: Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah. Breathe slowly and let your heart catch up to your tongue.

Minute 3: Shukr
Write three things you are grateful for. Gratitude is a direct path to getting closer to Allah. It can be as simple as being grateful for your eyes seeing Allahs creation.

Minute 4: Good deeds
Set one tiny intention that brings reward and joy. Even a sincere smile counts. Keep it doable.

My 5 minute routine (evening)

Minute 1: Istighfar
We all fall short. Begin by asking Allah for forgiveness with a soft heart.

Minute 2: Reflection on the day
Before sleep, I look for the good that still happened. Training the heart to find light in hard days builds patience.

Minute 3: Prayer and Quran log
Tracking helps me show up. Seeing a blank circle pushes me to open the Quran, even for a few verses.

Minute 4: Dua and 99 Names of Allah
I make a specific request and pair it with a Name of Allah that fits my need. It keeps my heart focused on Who I am asking.

How to make it stick

  • Anchor it. Tie your 5 minutes to a cue you already do daily: after Fajr tea, during lunch break, or right before Isha.
  • Make it visible. Keep your journal and pen where you pray or on your nightstand.
  • Start imperfect. Even 2 minutes counts. The goal is to show up.
  • Track streaks. A simple 7 day chain is motivating. Let it grow.

How the 5 Minute Islamic Gratitude Journal helps

I built the journal to remove friction so you can focus on Allah, not on what to write.

  • Guided 5 minute layout for morning and evening
  • Gratitude, dhikr, istighfar, Dear Allah dua
  • Short ayah or hadith inspiration
  • Reflections on the 99 Names of Allah
  • Trackers for salah and Quran to build consistency
  • Undated 3 month format so you can start any day

If you want to try it, you can find it here: The Journal that changed my life..

Getting closer to Allah is not about being perfect. It is about turning back to Him again and again with sincerity. Five minutes can be the doorway to a calmer heart, more patience, and a real relationship with your Lord. If you are ready to try, start today. Open a page and see how you feel in a week.
